Series Description

Hatfields and McCoys was a six hour, three part miniseries on the History Channel about the Hatfield family of West Virginia and the McCoy family who lived just across the border in Kentucky. They were very friendly until near the end of the civil war when Anse Hatfield went AWOL from his rebel Army unit of which Randall McCoy was also a member. McCoy ended out being the only survivor of that unit and spent time in a horrible Union prison camp which makes it understandable why he wasn't too pleased with his former buddy. After that a stolen pig resulted in further conflict which eventually led to one killing after another. Add to that a rocky romance between a Hatfield and a McCoy which resulted in a pregnancy that no one wanted and you've got six hours of non-stop drama!

The Hatfields and McCoys miniseries drew the largest audience of any ad-supported program in cable television history! And surprisingly it got so much acclaim after the first couple of weeks that more viewers tuned in for the final 2 hour episode than did for the first two! The History Channel series beat out TNT's "Crossfire Trail" for the #1 spot which had held the record since 2001!
