Series Description
The H2O: Just Add Water TV show was a 30 minute Australian fantasy series on Network Ten about three teenage girls who fall into an ancient cave that contains a mystical pool of water. They had to swim through the water to escape the cave and when they returned home they discovered that whenever they made contact with water they turned into mermaids! Sometimes their powers are a blessing and sometimes they are a curse.

I've got a special power
That I'm not afraid to use.
Come on, this is my adventure
This is my fantasy.
I'm about living in the ocean,
Being wild and free.
'Cause I'm no ordinary girl,
I'm from the deep, blue underworld,
Land or sea,
I've got the power if I just believe.
'Cause I'm no ordinary girl,
I'm from the deep, blue underworld,
Land or sea,
The world's my oyster,
I'm the pearl,
No ordinary girl.
H2O: Just Add Water Trivia
In the first season Cleo had the power to control the shape of water, Emma could freeze it and Rikki could boil it. In season two Cleo gained the power to control wind, Emma to freeze humidity from the air and Rikki to create lightning and use it to start fires.
In 2008 H2O: Just Add Water won an AFI (Australian Film Institute) Award for "Best Visual Effects". In 2009 the series won a Logie Award for "Most Outstanding Children's Program".
It was difficult for the girls to keep their eyes open underwater long enough to shoot an entire scene so they put cream in their eyes.
The series was filmed at Sea World in Gold Coast, Queensland; Warner Bros. Movieworld in Oxenford, Queensland and other locations. The girls' high school was actually Somerset College at 34 Clover Hill Drive in Mudgeeraba, Queensland. The Juicenet Cafe was located at 1 Marina Crescent in Hollywell, Queensland.
Prior to H2O: Just Add Water's premiere in the United States on Nickelodeon, they broadcast a full fifteen minute promo for the series!
The original plan was to only produce two seasons of H2O: Just Add Water but it was so successful that a third season was produced.
Unfortunately, there are no plans for a fourth season of H20: Just Add Water but the series creator, Jonathan M. Shiff announced in July of 2011 that he would produce 26 episodes of a new series titled, "Mako: Island of Secrets" with three new mermaids named Lyla, Nixie and Sirena and a "merboy" named Zac! Since then the title of the series was changed to "Secret of Mako Island" and then again to "Mako Mermaids". Filming of episodes took place from May-October of 2012. The series premiered on July 26, 2013 on Network Ten in Australia under the original title and in the U.S. on the same date on Netflix (all episodes available).
