Actor Kevin Connelly had decided to retire from acting before Entourage producers approached him about the part of Eric Murphy. He couldn't say no when he found out that the part had been written with him in mind!
As of this writing in November of 2008, Jeremy Piven won Emmys in 2006, 2007, and 2008 in the category, "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series". He was also nominated in the same category in 2005 but Brad Garrett won that year for his role as Raymond's brother on "Everybody Loves Raymond". Jeremy was also nominated for a Golden Globe for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television" in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Then he won the Golden Globe in that category in 2008!
Kevin Dillon has also received two Emmy and one Golden Globe nominations for the first four seasons.
There have been numerous other award nominations and wins. Through the first four seasons, Entourage itself has been nominated for Golden Globes all four years! In 2005 and 2006 it lost to "Desperate Housewives", in 2007 to "Ugly Betty", and in 2008 to another HBO series titled "Extras".
The character, "Vincent Chase", is loosely based on the real-life "Mark Wahlberg" who is one of Entourage's Executive Producers. The character, "Ari Gold", is loosely based on the real-life "Ari Emanuel" who is one of the top agents in Hollywood and a partner in the "Endeavor Agency". Many of the celebrities that have done guest spots on Entourage are represented by Ari Emanuel in real life!
Adrian Grenier's first credited role on TV is as Vincent Chase on Entourage. That doesn't mean that he had no prior acting experience. He had appeared in 21 movie roles. He also appeared in a music video with Britney Spears singing, "You Drive Me Crazy".
