Dick Van Dyke .... Doctor Mark Sloan Diagnosis Murder Trivia:
Diagnosis Murder was a "spin-off" of the series, "Jake and the Fatman". Doctor Mark Sloan first appeared on episode #77, "It Never Entered My Mind" of Jake and the Fatman where he assisted the District Attorney (The Fatman) and a detective (Jake Styles) solve one of their most difficult murder cases.
Victoria Rowell played the role of the single Doctor Amanda Bentley on Diagnosis Murder. When Victoria became pregnant in real life they decided to explain it by having her marry a man who was away, serving in the military. That way, they didn't have to bring on a new cast member to play the role of Amanda's husband.
Victoria also had a regular role on the daytime drama, "The Young and the Restless" during her entire eight years on Diagnosis Murder! In the Diagnosis Murder episodes titled, "Gangland - Parts 1 and 2" we learned that Amanda Bentley had been a foster child. Victoria Rowell who played Amanda had also been a real-life foster child.
CBS moved Diagnosis Murder to a different night just one time during its eight season run but they changed the time slot six times.
Scott Baio left the show at the end of the second season. They explained that Dr. Stewart left in order to move to Colorado and start his own clinic.
You probably either knew or noticed that Barry Van Dyke is the son of Dick Van Dyke. Many people seem to think that Barry has only acted on Diagnosis Murder but that's far from the truth. He played the role of "Lieutenant Dillon" on the sci-fi series, "Galactica 1980" and he played "John Hawke" on the entire fourth season of "Airwolf". Barry has also made guest-starring appearances on numerous shows including "Wonder Woman", "Mork and Mindy", "Remington Steele", "Magnum P.I.", "The A-Team", "The Dukes of Hazzard", and "The Love Boat". You can even see him on episode #19 of "The Dick Van Dyke Show". The episode that the 11-year-old Barry appeared on was titled, "The Talented Neighborhood"!
