Tom Byrd .... Boone Sawyer Boone Trivia:
Actually, Boone Sawyer's love was "rockabilly", which was country music with a more positive theme and usually a faster tempo. It was to become a perfectly acceptable form of country music but Boone was a little early for the Nashville establishment to accept it. That was why he failed so miserably in his first attempt at stardom. The Grand Ole Opry not only wouldn't allow him to perform there, they pretty much tossed him out the door!
The Boone TV show was set in 1953 on the outskirts of Trinity, Tennessee which was not far from Nashville.
Boone's mom and dad didn't see much hope for his success with "rockabilly" either. They told him to choose between taking over the operation of dad's gas station or to become a minister. Boone had lost an older brother in World War II and his plan had been to become a minister.
Boone continued to occasionally sing and play the guitar at his Aunt Dolly and Uncle Link's bar called simply, "Link's Lounge".
The Boone TV show had a tough job in competing with the other shows in its time slot. ABC was airing "That's Incredible!" and CBS was running "Scarecrow and Mrs. King".
