Series Description

Wizards of Waverly Place was a 30 minute childrens series on the Disney Channel about a dad who was a former Wizard and was teaching his children to become Wizards. Along with mom, dad also ran a sub sandwich shop. Most of the episodes involve spells that go wrong and someone coming close to discovering that they practice magic.

Wizards of Waverly Place Trivia

Disney had a really hard time deciding what to name this series. First it was going to be called, "The Amazing Hannigans". That was changed to "The Amazing O'Malleys". Finally, it was changed to "Wizards of Waverly Place". Well, not finally actually. Someone then came up with "Disney's Wizards" but eventually it got changed back to "Wizards of Waverly Place".

A couple of the characters who appeared on Wizards of Waverly Place were named after characters from 1960s TV series. "Mr. Laritate" was named after "Larry Tate" who was Darrin Stevens boss on "Bewitched". "Ms. Majorhealey" was named after "Major Roger Healey" on "I Dream of Jeannie". When the show was going to be called, "The Amazing O'Malleys", Selena Gomez's character was going to be named "Brooke O'Malley".

The exterior view of the Tribeca Academy is in real life PS 40 in the Gramercy area of Manhattan, between 1st and 2nd Avenue on East 20th Street.
