Where the Action Is Theme Song
Title: "Action"
Composed By: "Tommy Boyce & Steve Venet"
Performed By: "Freddy 'Boom Boom' Cannon"
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
It's so neat to meet ya baby where the action is.
In every little town cross the U.S.A.
There's a spot where the people tangle everyday
Just leave your problems and get away
Come down and listen to the guitars play.
Dance, dance dance when you hear that beat
Dance, dance dance get up off of your seat
Dance, dance dance let your back bone slip
Let's go to the place on the Sunset Strip
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
Oh, baby come on, let me take you where the action is.
It's so neat to meet ya baby where the action is.
Where the Action Is Trivia
All of the Where the Action Is episodes where filmed in Black & White. The majority of the episodes were shot at Malibu Beach and Bear Mountain in California but others were taped in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan.
Dick Clark's legendary musical series, "American Bandstand" was originally aired on Monday-Friday. Then, in 1965 after two years on the air, it moved to just one show weekly on Saturday afternoons. Mr. Clark decided to develop a "spin-off series" titled "Where the Action Is" in order to fill the weekday after school pop music void left by American Bandstand's time change.
By the way, when Dick Clark in 1989 stopped hosting American Bandstand, it was the longest TV variety program to ever be on the air!
The Dance Troupe that entertained audiences on Where the Action Is was named, "Pete Manifee and The Action Kids".
One of the Dancers on Where the Action Is, "Keith Allison", got a great boost to his stature when he later joined "Paul Revere and the Raiders"!
The Where the Action Is theme song (see above) made it as high as #13 on the pop charts in September of 1965!
After Where the Action Is was canceled, the story didn't end there! Paul Revere and the Raiders had become a superstar group and had several hit records through the early 1970s! Together, Paul Revere and lead vocalist Paul Lindsay hosted a Saturday afternoon series nearly identical to Where the Action Is titled, "Happening '68" and another weekday series from 1968-1969 titled, "It's Happening", from 1968 to 1969. Again, both of those shows were also produced by Dick Clark and aired on ABC. Then, in both 1973 and 1985, Where the Action Is returned to the air for two more very short runs! In 1987, CBS aired another series, "Keep on Cruisin" which was also a Where the Action Is clone.
