Weeds Trivia
The coastal city of Ren Mar is introduced in season four. It is a fictional town named after Renmar Studios where Weeds is taped.
The intro to Weeds shows an aerial photo of a city. That city is Calabasas, California.
While the Weeds theme song composer, "Malvina Reynolds" also sang the tune for the first season, numerous other well known singers performed the lyrics during the second and third seasons. Among the best known were Joan Baez, Elvis Costello, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Donovan, Engelbert Humperdinck, Angelique Kidjo, "Linkin Park", Kate and Anna McGarrigle (sung in French), Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice, Regina Spektor, Randy Newman, Rise Against, The Shins and Billy Bob Thornton.
Lots of the outdoor shots on Weeds are taped around and in the small community of Stevenson Ranch, California.
Have you noticed that whenever a character on Weeds is drinking something through a straw it sounds like the drink is nearly gone and air is rushing through the straw even when the drink is actually far from empty? That's not a goof. It's done on purpose as a gag.
Three of the regulars on Weeds, Romany Malco, Kevin Nealon and Elizabeth Perkins were all born on November 18th. Malco was born in 1968, Nealon in 1953 and Perkins in 1960.
Alexander Gould provided the voice for "Nemo" in the 2003 animated film, "Finding Nemo". Elizabeth Perkins voiced Nemo's mother "Coral" in the same movie. Guest star Albert Brooks who appeared in four episodes of Weeds in 2008 provided the voice for Nemo's dad, "Marlin". Ironically, Brooks played Gould's grandfather on Weeds.
Weeds Theme Song
Title: "Little Boxes"
Composed and Performed By: "Malvina Reynolds"
Performed by Various Artists in Seasons 2 & 3
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
