Series Description

The This Is Us TV show is a 60 minute drama/comedy series that premiered on September 20, 2016 on NBC. It is about the lives of two parents and their three children's joys and struggles. The episodes bounce back and forth in time between the children's youth and their middle-aged adulthood.

Other titles that were considered for the series included "36, Happy Birthday" and "The Story of Us".

This Is Us began as an 80-page movie script that Dan Fogelman was developing while working for ABC Studios in early 2015. It was about the lives of eight adults who were octuplets. Fogelman later decided to cut it down to triplets and shortened the script to 45 pages before he tried to sell it to a studio.

This Is Us was nominated for "Best Television Series - Drama" at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, the "Best Drama Series" at the 7th Critics' Choice Awards and as a "Top Television Program" by the American Film Institute.

At the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2017 This Is Us received ten Emmy nominations, including an "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" award for Sterling K. Brown and an "Outstanding Drama Series" award for the show! Brown also won a Golden Globe, a Critics' Choice Award, and an NAACP Image Award for his his role as Randall Pearson.

Both Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz received Golden Globe nominations for "Best Supporting Actress".
