Series Description

Surfside 6 was a 60 minute comedy series on ABC about three Miami Beach private detectives who run their agency from a houseboat with a rich socialite's yacht right next door and a posh hotel with a swinging hangout called the "Boom Boom Room" right across the street. They worked hard solving cases and played hard at the Fontainebleau Hotel!

Surfside 6 Trivia

ABC was into detective series with hip characters set in different trendy locales at this time. They broadcast "Bourbon Street Beat" which was set in New Orleans during the 1959-1960 season, "77 Sunset Strip" in Los Angeles from 1958-1964 and "Hawaiian Eye" in Hawaii from 1959-1963. All of those series were filmed on the same studio backlots in LA and that made it easy to crossover plots and characters from one to another! All four series had catchy theme songs.

Surfside 6 was actually a "spinoff" of "Bourbon Street Beat" because Van Williams' character Kenny Madison moved from the canceled Bourbon Street Beat to the premiere of Surfside 6.

Surfside 6 may have lasted longer than two episodes if it wasn't for some hefty competition from CBS during its second season. Two of the most populat sitcoms of the early 1960s, "The Danny Thomas Show" and "The Andy Griffith Show" made it pretty difficult to attract an audience.
