The original title for Surface was actually "Fathom". They waited a bit too long to change the title though. NBC and a nationwide movie theater chain promoted the show with all sorts of advertising on soft drink cups, popcorn bags, posters, and other stuff in the theaters. Unfortunately, they all had "Fathom" on them rather than "Surface"!

Carter's mother took him to Los Angeles for training, and after a mere two weeks, he was represented by a top agent and getting work!
