Starsky and Hutch Trivia
The series took place in the fictional town of Bay City, California.
Starsky and Hutch patrolled the streets in a two-door, Ford Gran Torino. It was red with a huge white stripe on each side that made it look like it could slide right through the air! It got the nickname "Striped Tomato" after Paul Michael Glaser revealed that after seeing the car for the first time he said, "That thing looks like a striped tomato!" The description stuck and Hutch called the car by the nickname for the first time in episode #4 titled, "Snowstorm".
Occasionally Hutch drove a beat up tan 1973 Ford Galaxie 500 if a second car was needed for some reason.
When Starsky and Hutch talked on the radio with headquarters their call sign was "Zebra Three".
Aaron Spelling produced the Starsky and Hutch TV show and so many other ones that only a very few of his best known can be listed here. Here they are:
"Johnny Ringo (1959)", "Daniel Boone (1964)", "The Mod Squad (1968)", "The Rookies (1972)", "Starsky and Hutch (1975)", "Charlie's Angels (1976)", "The Love Boat (1977)", "Fantasy Island (1978)", "Hart to Hart (1979)", "Dynasty (1981)", "T.J. Hooker (1982)", "Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990)", "Melrose Place (1992)", "7th Heaven (1996)", "Charmed (1998)".
Starsky and Hutch often got help from a snitch and bar owner called "Huggy Bear". Huggy became so popular with fans that Aaron Spelling considered doing a spinoff with Huggy and his buddy, "Turkey" Turquet as private detectives. A pilot was filmed and aired on Starsky and Hutch in the second season episode titled, "Huggy Bear and the Turkey". It wasn't one of the better performing episodes in the ratings so the idea was dropped.
In that episode, it was revealed that Huggy's last name was "Brown" but his first name was never revealed. He always went by his nickname.
