Series Description

One Day at a Time was a 30 minute comedy series on CBS about a recently divorced mother of two teenage girls who was trying her best to get their lives back on the right track under totally new circumstances. The youngest daughter, at age 15, was very well behaved but could be demanding at times. Her older sister, at age 17, wasn't demanding at all ... in fact, she would have preferred her mother to simply "butt-out" of her life and let her make her own (usually very bad) decisions. But through the hard times, their love for each other (and a little help from their goofy building superintendant "Schneider") solved all problems in the long run!

One Day at a Time Trivia

Early in One Day at a Time's run there were plans to spin-off Schneider into his own series but it somehow never happened.

Pat Harrington's character (Duane Schneider) wasn't too bright on One Day at a Time, but that's a testament to the brilliance of Harrington's acting abilities! In real life, he had a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fordham University (class of 1950) and went on to get a Masters Degree in Political Philosophy! Among Pat's numerous acting credits, Pat appeared in several other TV series. They include: "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town", "The Jack Paar Show", "Make Room for Daddy", and "The Steve Allen Show".

The name of the public relations company that Ann Romano worked for was, "Connors and Davenport".

Mackenzie Phillips also starred in the TV series, "So Weird". While shooting So Weird, she was made the legal guardian of her co-star, "Patrick Levis" until he turned 18. Her father is John Phillips of the legendary 1960s pop musical group, "The Mamas and the Papas". It's well-known that Mackenzie had substance abuse problems that caused her to leave One Day at a Time. Thankfully, she put that behind her long ago ... having been sober since January 27, 1992!

Valerie Bertinelli was a gorgeous young woman and was offered many movie roles in the 1980s where her great looks would be perfect for the role. Unfortunately, many of them required some nudity and Valerie turned them down! She came in number 29 on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Kid Stars". She also starred in another TV Series titled, "Sydney".
