The Office Trivia
There was a 10 part series of online videos at NBC's website that filled the gap in the storyline between the final Office episode of season 2 and the first episode of season 3. The episode titles were, "The Books Don't Balance", "Phyllis", "Meredith", "Stanley", "Someone in the Warehouse", "The Memo", "Things Are Getting Tense", "You're Mean", "Michael's Office", and "The Best Day of My Life".
The U.S. version of "The Office" is one of the very few British series that managed to "spin-off" a successful American adaptation!
There are good reasons why this U.S. version of the British series is so successful. First, the creators of the British series, "Ricky Gervais" and "Stephen Merchant" are executive producers. Second, another executive producer, "Greg Daniels" who was a writer for "King of the Hill", "Saturday Night Live" and "The Simpsons" adapted the series for American audiences.
Steve Carell left the series near the end of the seventh season. He said that he wanted to spend more time with his family. TV series often have a grueling shooting schedule and that along with Steve's successful movie career probably made him a stranger to his wife Nancy and their two children. Steve's character was replaced by Andy Bernard (played by Ed Helms) as the regional manager of Dunder Mifflin.
In the season seven finale, Kathy Bates' character "CEO Jo Bennett" was replaced by "Robert California" played by multiple Emmy-Award winning actor James Spader.
The Office was the first comedy series that NBC aired in wide screen format to viewers without HDTVs presenting a picture with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
Ironically, the exterior shots of the building containing the office is across the street from a bar called "The Office" in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This could have been a bad omen for the show as the bar was condemned by the city a couple of years ago.
Mindy Kaling, Ellie Kemper, Angela Kinsey and John Krasinski are all former interns on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien". And if that's not weird enough for you, notice that their last names all begin with the letter "K"!
