High Chaparral Trivia
In the final season of The High Chaparral, Frank Silvera died. They explained the disappearance of his character by having Don Sebastian also die on the show.
Linda Cristal was nominated for a Golden Globe as "Best Actress in a drama series" in both 1970 & 1971. She won in 1970!
Leif Erickson didn't have the best luck with his love life. He was married to film star Frances Farmer for 6 1/2 years. Frances was perhaps the all-time "high maintenance" female. She had a severe drinking problem, often didn't show up for filming, and spent time in a mental institution. Erickson divorced her on June 12, 1942 and married actress Margaret Hayes on the very same day! That marriage laste 32 days!
Cameron Mitchell served as a bombardier in World War II. In 1940, he appeared on an experimental TV broadcast titled, "The Passing Of The Third Floor Back". His career totalled more than 300 film and TV appearances and he also had a successful career on Broadway!
Victoria Cannon was John's second wife. His first wife was killed by an Indian arrow in the first episode. Victoria was a Mexican cattle heiress.
The High Chaparral replaced the "Andy Williams show". This change made for a pretty spectacular night on NBC for western lovers as the show aired immediately after the hit western series, "Bonanza", which had already flourished for eight years on NBC!
