Donny Osmond The Donny And Marie Show Trivia:
Donny and Marie appeared on television for the first time on the "Andy Williams Show". Andy discovered their big brothers act, "The Osmonds", while they were performing at Disneyland and hired them to be regular performers on his show. Donny joined the show in 1963 when he was only six years old and Marie made a guest appearance when she was only four years old!
During the first season, Donny and Marie's brothers also appeared on the show each week. By the second season, Donny and Marie's popularity grew exponentially and their brothers made occasional guest appearances. Their was no jealousy in the Osmond family though. They were renowned as one of the closest families to ever "hit it big" in show business. Mom and dad Osmond even appeared on the second season's Christmas episode.
For the second season, the Osmonds built a multi-million dollar TV studio in their hometown of Provo, Utah and produced the show from there to keep the family closer together.
The series was nominated for 1 Emmy in the first season and 2 Emmys in the second season.
On January 21, 1977, four of the Cast from the series, "The Brady Bunch" appeared on this show. They were Florence Henderson (Carol), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Susan Olsen (Cindy) and Mike Lookinland (Bobby). Two days later, the first episode of "The Brady Bunch Hour" aired with all of the old Brady Bunch cast (except Eve Plumb) appearing in their own variety show. Amazingly, their first episode had two of the same guest stars as the first regular episode of the Donny & Marie Show, Farrah Fawcett Majors & Lee Majors! The pilot for the Brady Bunch Hour guest-starred non other than Donny & Marie Osmond!
One of the most popular attractions to the show was when Donny and Marie would perform while on ice skates (you had to see it to appreciate it). Bob Paul and Barbara Wagner who together won the figure skating gold medal in the 1960 winter Olympics, choreographed the segments.
