Series Description The Any Day Now TV show was a 60 minute drama series on Lifetime about a white woman and a black woman who meet thirty years after breaking off their close relationship as girls who were best friends in Alabama in the 1960s. Their friendship of the past ended when the white girl became pregnant, kept her baby and married her boyfriend. The black girl didn't support her decision and that broke up the friendship. Thirty years in the future they reconnected and renewed their close friendship. Episodes often flashed back to their past and then reflected upon how those events effected them in the present. Any Day Now got its title from the hit song of the same name that was recorded by Chuck Jackson in 1962 (see Theme Song above). Ronnie Milsap also recorded it in 1982 and Lori Perry sang it for the TV show.
In addition to numerous other miscellaneous awards, Any Day Now received an Emmy nomination in 2000 for "Outstanding Costumes for a Series". It lost that Emmy to "Providence". Other nominees were "Sex and the City", "The Sopranos", "Star Trek Voyager" and "The West Wing".
The Any Day Now TV show was set in the town of Birmingham, Alabama.
Donzaleigh Abernathy portrayed Sara Jackson on four episodes of Any Day Now. Sara was married to a civil rights activist. Ironically, in real life Donzaleigh's father is the Reverend Ralph Abernathy who is one of the leaders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the organization that was the driving force behind the civil rights movement in the United States!
In the fourth season of Any Day Now the producers decided that the young Mary and Rene should be portrayed as older, more mature young women so the actresses who played them were replaced.
Lifetime actually would have liked to renew Any Day Now for a fifth season but Annie Potts wanted to spend more time with her family. That's completely understandable because from the 1986-1987 season to the end of the fourth season of Any Day Now she had starred on three series for 14 out of 16 seasons! Seven seasons on "Designing Women", two seasons on "Love and War", one season on "Dangerous Minds" and four seasons on Any Day Now!
