Series Description Downton Abbey is a 60 minute, British historical drama series on ITV1 in the United Kingdom and on PBS in the United States. It is about the aristocratic Crawley family led by the Earl and Countess of Grantham and their relationships not only with each other but also with their servants. The first season of Downton Abbey covered the years of 1912 to 1916. The second season from 1916 to 1919. The Christmas special aired on Christmas in 2011 but took place during the Christmas season of 1919 and ended in early 1920. The third season continued in 1920 and ended in the fall of 1921.
The Crawleys and their servants are often featured involved in important historical events like the sinking of the Titanic, the horrors of World War I, the loss of millions of lives during the breakout of the Spanish Flu and the fight by the Irish for home rule.
